AIMST University is officially recognized by the Ministry of Higher Education, Malaysia, as a tertiary institution under Sections 38 and 39 of the Private Higher Educational Institutions Act 1996. The university commenced its operations on 30 October 2001, following its registration with the Department of Private Education under the same ministry.

YANG BERBAHAGIA . TUN. S. SAMY VELLU
Tun S. Samy Vellu, former President of the Malaysian Indian Congress (MIC) and Chairman of MIED, was an inspiring leader who embodied the aspirations of the Malaysian Indian community. His political career began in 1979 when he was appointed Minister of Local Government and Housing, later serving as Works Minister until 2008, with a brief tenure as Minister of Energy, Telecommunications and Post from 1989 to 1995. His significant contributions earned him the role of Special Envoy on Infrastructure to India and South Asia in 2010, strengthening Malaysia’s development presence abroad. Among his greatest achievements, the establishment of AIMST University stands as a lasting symbol of his dedication to expanding educational opportunities for all Malaysians. He also championed initiatives in housing, employment, and business to uplift the Indian community. Although he is no longer with us, Tun S. Samy Vellu’s legacy of leadership, service, and resilience continues to inspire Malaysians across generations.

YANG BERBAHAGIA TAN SRI DATO’ SRI DR. SA. VIGNESWARAN
YBhg. Tan Sri Dato’ Sri Dr. SA. Vigneswaran, President of the Malaysian Indian Congress (MIC), has had an illustrious career, serving as President of the Dewan Negara and the Prime Minister’s Special Envoy to India and South Asia. Actively involved in MIC youth activities, he introduced reforms to expand educational opportunities. His key achievements include founding the Malaysian Indian Youth Development Foundation and authoring Redemption of Indian Dignity. Tan Sri Vigneswaran has also contributed to international humanitarian efforts and was nominated for the Ambassador of Peace Award by the International World Peace Organisation. He currently serves as Chancellor and Chairman of AIMST University’s Board of Directors.

UNIVERSITY OFFER COURSES
AIMST University offers a wide range of programmes across various faculties, catering to different levels of education and professional interests. The Faculty of Allied Health Professions provides Short Courses (Certificate), Diploma, Post Basic, Undergraduate, and Postgraduate programmes, as well as a Health Care Assistant course designed to equip students with essential healthcare skills. The Faculty of Applied Science offers Diploma, Undergraduate, and Postgraduate programmes focusing on scientific innovation and research. The Faculty of Dentistry provides Undergraduate programmes that train students to become skilled dental professionals. The Faculty of Engineering and Computer Technology offers Diploma and Undergraduate programmes aimed at developing expertise in modern engineering and computing fields. The Faculty of Medicine provides both Undergraduate and Postgraduate programmes, preparing future medical practitioners and researchers with a strong foundation in clinical knowledge and practice. Lastly, the Faculty of Pharmacy offers Undergraduate and Postgraduate programmes dedicated to advancing pharmaceutical sciences and healthcare.
